There's so much help we youths need. When it comes to relationship matters, quite a lot happens. So much needs to change. Girls have so much on their minds and so do boys. There are so many issues that need to be addressed for us to change this generation of ours and the way things are going. Divorces and separations are springing up everyday and this boils down to the point of selecting who to spend the rest of one's life with. Youths need to understand a few things when dating. Some of these issues I have discussed below hoping in one way or the other, it helps heal a failing relationship or helps someone make a decision.
A major issue I have come to discover amongst us youths is 'Stereotyping'. There seems to be a lot of this on our minds.Guys have so much ideas in their heads and same goes for the girls. These ideas we 'pass' around all in the name of sharing ideas seem to do more harm to healthy relationships than good. We seem to forget that every individual is totally different from the other and just because Seun cheated on his girlfriend does not necessarily mean Michael will. We need to start treating our relationships with respect to individuality and learn to relate with the person as who he or she is. Stereotyping I have learnt over time, from experience and from others, kills relationships. The earlier you realize your girlfriend of today is different from the last you had the better for the health of your present relationship. Why not give that person you say you love the benefit of the doubt and let them prove you wrong before you bury them.
Growing up and maturity is not a function of age. How do you expect to have a concrete and rewarding relatonship with someone who is not on the same wavelenght as you? You can't expect to have peace in a relationship based on just likeness. There are shared ideals that need to be in place. Do you share common goals? What is your outlook like and what does your partner see? How do you expect to resolve misunderstandings? What about trust? Maturity in a relationship is the foundation on which the relationship should be based. Matured minds settle issues amicably and truly understand each other. Maturity makes you listen attentively to the needs and aspirations of your spouse. It teaches you that respect is reciprocal. It teaches you to respect your spouse and then you wait and see what you get in return.
A common mistake so many young people make is having the believe that we can change our spouses after marriage.Whoever you court and get married to is who you are going to live with.So if your fiance(e) beats you now,you should expect the same treatment from him after marriage. We tend to believe we have powers to change our spouses, maybe that happens in a few instances but lets not hope for it and end up being dejected. Don''t expect a miracle to happen. You can prevent the need for that miracle now.
Most of all, we need the fear of God. This fear makes you value and respect your partner as much as you value and respect yourself. If you want a peaceful and beautiful future, what are you doing to achieve that? Relationships are about giving and taking. You should not expect to recieve when you have not given. I once read that men should nuture their wives as the would nuture a garden and see how she blossoms. A good home is the most beautiful thing you can ever wish for...so, its in your hands right now. We need to realize that beautiful relationships dont fall from heaven but that they are built by two people who have jointly made up their minds about what they want for themselves.
How you spend the next 30 to 40 years of your life depends on you and who you choose to marry...
Take heed and be careful!
